Spring In Your Step

The flowers are springing up, the season of singing birds has come,
and the cooing of turtledoves fills the air.
Song of Solomon 2:12 NLT

Okay... maybe Solomon took it a little over the top with the whole turtledoves thing, but you get what he's saying.  Spring has sprung!

What a pleasure it was to drive by these blossoming beauties as I dropped my daughter off at school.

I love the spring time.  It's a season of new beginnings... a time for motivation and inspiration.

So motivating, in fact, that when I got back home, I almost took a walk around my neighborhood.

Yep.  Almost.

But then, as usual, I began distracting myself with thoughts about all of the reasons why I couldn't do it right then.  I started thinking about my to-do list, and all of the things from the beginning of time that I'd started, but never finished.  I determined that every last one of those things needed to be done FIRST before I could even dream of "taking a break" to exercise.  What kind of irresponsible person would I be otherwise? Right?

No, not right.

Mine was a simple case of "anxiety-masked-by-accountability".  If you also have this condition, symptoms may appear as...

I can't exercise, because I have to (insert pseudo-important activity) first.

I can't study my Bible right now, because I have to
(insert pales-in-comparison activity) first.

I can't spend time with my kids right now,  because
have to (insert something-that-interests-me-not-them) first.

I can't pursue the next level in my career right now, because I have to (insert unnecessary-steps) first.

Often times, when I've come face-to-face with a challenge that threatens my comfort zone, I do an about-face, and swiftly run in the opposite direction.

Choosing to retreat may preserve my comfort in that immediate moment.  But how many day-changing opportunities have I given up in exchange for it?  How many life-changing opportunities?  Not just for myself, but for others around me?

How many blessings have you given up in exchange for an ounce of comfort?  Do you even know?

God's outpouring is far too precious for us to turn our noses up at it in the name of preserving our comfort zones.  Our comfort zones aren't worth a hill of beans compared to the level of peace and fulfillment we can achieve by walking in the steps that God has ordered for us.

From awe-striking miracles to everyday blessings, His way for us is always the best way.

Commitment to exercise, personal Bible study, quality time with family, and even diligence when preparing for a career move-- in doing these seemingly small honorable things, we are honoring God.

And even though our anxieties, stubbornness, and other human deficiencies may cause us to sometimes fail Him, He is ever faithful.

Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.
Lamentations 3:23 NLT

Each day, when we wake up, it's a reminder that there's another chance for us to grow.  Another chance for us to get out of our own way, and walk according to His purpose.  Another chance to exchange our comfort zone for His comfort zone.

So, if the going got tough today, and you stuck your head in the sand, don't dwell on it.  Brush it off.   You never know.  Walking on water might be one tomorrow away...

Hugz,
