Life Purpose - Definition

"Who am I?  Why am I here?"  Regardless of your walk in life, you've probably shared in this most basic human desire-- to find out where you came from, and to uncover what you were sent here to do.  According to dictionary.com, purpose is defined as "the reason for which something exists, or is done, made, used, etc...".  As such then, one's life purpose must be the reason for which one's unique existence was made to be-- the achievement that it was made to fulfill, and the end that it was created to attain.
God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul,  Genesis 2:7.
In Genesis 1:26, we see that God created our living souls in His own image and likeness.  This means that we share characteristics with our Creator.  We love, despise, build, destroy, protect, defend, imagine, discern... choose.  He is endless, and so are the possibilities of what He can manifest through us-- if we allow ourselves to be a vessel for His purpose.

We are all unique-- fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14

Even in looking at a set of identical twins, you can see their physical differences-- whether they be slight or whether they be evident.   And when you begin searching their individual preferences, the personality differences abound.

Why are we made so differently from one another?  Because we were each created to fulfill a uniquely assigned capacity designated just for us.

That's right.  You're here on Special Assignment, double-O-human!  And no one can fulfill that assignment but you.

Don't look for your assignment to be just one individual act that has your name on it.  You have a variety of God-given gifts, and a variety of God-given abilities.  What is that very special part of you that seems to be present in everything that you do?  Something that permeates almost everything you touch, and leaves an impression on almost everyone you engage-- consciously or unconsciously.  What is that "thing"?

And don't be too quick to dismiss your "thing", if it's something that has previously been viewed as negative.   Popular opinion is not the same as fact.  Unless a particular characteristic is qualitatively destructive (jealousy, pessimism, etc...),  it may hold the key to uncovering your life purpose.  Perhaps you're an overly sensitive person.  Maybe that's because you're meant to function in a capacity where you empathize with others and help them get to a more positive place in their lives.  Perhaps you're a stickler for details and rules.  Maybe that's because you're meant to function in a capacity where defining processes and order are essential to ensuring an organization or an individual's success.  Or perhaps you're a playful and light-hearted individual, often chastised for not taking life seriously enough.  Maybe that's because you're meant to function in a capacity where you assist others in seeing the lighter side of life, and where you help them break down the internal barriers that have been keeping them from that lighter side.

Regardless of what that thing is, God has put it in you as a natural tendency for a reason.  So, instead of trying to suppress it, pray for Him to help you figure out what in the world He gave it to you for.

God is love, and God's love is not selfish, so whatever your life purpose is, it will be something that can help others, even while it helps you.

Be deliberate in your effort to uncover the assignment God has put you on this earth to fulfill.

Because, let's be real.  You're only human, so in the grand scheme of things, you don't have a lot of time left on this planet.

What are you going to do with that time?

God gives you free will to choose good or bad, better or best, accomplishment or failure, and life or death.

You can either spend your time here fulfilling your purpose, and making your mark, or wasting everyone's time, and leaving your assignment incomplete.

It's up to you.
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  Ephesians 2:10
Choose to uncover your God-given "powers" today, and begin on the journey to using them for your life purpose.  If God called you to it, he has already equipped you to do it.  Uncover your purpose, and bless others as you boldly live it out!

So true! Can't agree with you more! =)

God is so amazing that with ALL the people in this planet, we have a "specific" purpose. Praise God for His power!

Hey Karen! Excellent post! Just a technical question-How were you able to put Facebook and twitter buttons on your page?

Hi Viviene! Yes, we should definitely be excited about living out our own "specific" purpose. He made us different from one another, because we have different roles to fill. Sounds logical to me. :-)

Nyeema-- I'll find a couple of links to send you. And then if you have any trouble, call me and we'll figure it out.
